Hōmdoor Tandoor Oven Lighting
For Charcoal Hōmdoor
- Place 2lbs of charcoal onto the grate inside the clay pot. (Do not exceed 2lbs)
- Open vents in combustion door and keep the lid open.
- Crumple 3-4 full sheets of newspaper and place in combustion area below the grate.
- Light the paper with a long match or bbq lighter.
- When the charcoal is lit, add an additional handful or two at a time until you get to the desired temperature. The temperature is controlled by the air coming in through the vents and out through the top. The greater the airflow, the greater the combustion/temperature.
- Maintain temperature by playing with the lid, additional charcoal, and airflow.
For Propane Hōmdoor
- Connect hose to burner and 20 lb propane tank.
- Place a layer of lava rocks (supplied) to cover the grate.
- Open the valve by the burner just enough to get the propane to flow and the one at the tank.
- Light the burner with a long match or bbq lighter.
- Keep the mouth of the tandoor open.
- Adjust heat by using the gas valve and the lid.
For Natural Gas Hōmdoor
- Place a layer of lava rocks (supplied) to cover the grate.
- Open the valve by the burner just enough to get the gas to flow.
- Light the burner with a long match or bbq lighter.
- Keep the mouth of the tandoor open.
- Adjust heat by using the gas valve and the lid.
